12 Volt Outlet is proud to announce its partnership with American Bass. This is a brand that belongs in a conversation about substantial bass, purpose-built systems and the people who enjoy turning an idea into something they can hear and feel. Our goal is to make that conversation useful, whether the project is one carefully chosen subwoofer or a much more ambitious installation.
The American Bass collection at 12 Volt Outlet brings together equipment for customers who want to take the low-frequency side of their system seriously. Choosing the right model starts with understanding the whole build, not simply choosing the largest driver that will fit through the trunk opening.
A brand with a bass-focused identity
American Bass's own company history describes a range built for enthusiasts and competitors, including subwoofers, amplifiers, speakers, batteries and installation products. Its documented involvement in organizations such as dB Drag Racing, USACi and MECA helps explain why the name is familiar in the high-output side of car audio.
Competition history is useful background. It does not make every product a competition-only purchase, and it does not predict the result in a different vehicle. Your enclosure, electrical system, available space and tuning will shape what a particular installation can do.
For drivers building a daily system, that is good news: the project can be defined around the music and vehicle rather than someone else's score. A single well-matched subwoofer can be a more sensible choice than several drivers crowded into unsuitable airspace.
Compare the families, then compare the exact models
Our current selection includes examples from American Bass families such as King, Godzilla and XMAXXX Monster. These names give shoppers useful starting points, but each exact driver still needs its own review. Diameter, mounting depth, voice-coil configuration and recommended enclosure requirements all belong in that comparison.
The King Series 18-inch subwoofer and Godzilla Series 18-inch subwoofer illustrate why nominal size is not the whole specification. Before deciding between two 18-inch models, establish how much usable enclosure space the vehicle can actually provide and which amplifier load you intend to build around.
A larger cone is one design choice. It does not remove the need for a suitable box, enough clearance for the moving parts or a secure mounting arrangement. The enclosure and driver need to be selected as a pair.
Give the enclosure as much attention as the woofer
For a sealed enclosure, the net internal volume and the driver's suitability for that application matter. For a ported enclosure, port dimensions, tuning and displacement become additional parts of the design. The outside dimensions of a box do not tell you its usable internal volume after the driver, bracing and port occupy space.
Plan the enclosure before finalizing the purchase. Keep room for cargo access and normal use of the vehicle. Check that the finished box can enter the vehicle and be secured properly, not merely that it could fit once inside.
The same planning applies when replacing an existing woofer. A matching cutout does not prove that an old box is appropriate for the new driver. Check the current model's enclosure guidance rather than assuming two products with the same nominal diameter need the same environment.
Match the power to the complete build
American Bass and VFL names appear together in the broader product story. When comparing amplification, focus on continuous output at the final speaker load and the installation requirements behind that output. Keep maximum and RMS figures separate.
A demanding bass system also needs appropriate electrical support. Power and ground conductors, fuse protection, charging-system behavior and amplifier mounting should be planned with a qualified installer. More amplifier capacity is not a substitute for correct gain, filtering or a suitable enclosure.
The front speakers deserve attention too. A system should still make vocals and instruments easy to follow when the bass is turned up. Balance is part of an enjoyable build, even when strong low-frequency output is the main goal.
