12 Volt Outlet Announces Its Partnership with Directed

Directed DS4P Digital Remote Start System

Paul Galanos |

Breaking News: 12 Volt Outlet is proud to announce our partnership with Directed. Modern remote-start projects depend on more than a button and a receiver. The equipment must work with the vehicle's existing electronics, support the intended controls, and behave predictably during everyday use. Directed brings that integration-focused side of the 12-volt world into our brand lineup.

For customers, the exciting part is the possibility of a system planned around how the vehicle is actually used. A driver who wants familiar factory-key control has different needs from someone who wants a dedicated two-way remote or connected access. A good installation begins by defining those needs before selecting the hardware.

A closer look at digital remote-start platforms

Our catalog includes the Directed DS4P, Directed DS4, and Directed DS3P. These model names belong in a compatibility conversation, not a simple ranking from smaller to larger numbers. The correct platform depends on the vehicle, supported application, required connections, and desired expansion.

The manufacturer's current DS4P information describes digital remote start with integrated Bluetooth, high-current relays, and options for compatible factory-remote or added long-range control. Directed's DS4 documentation also explains vehicle-specific firmware and accessory integration. These are useful capabilities, but they do not establish that every feature works on every vehicle.

Firmware is the software that configures supported hardware for an application. The installer needs the correct vehicle information and current documentation. A module selected without that context can leave important questions unanswered even when its overall feature list sounds right.

Three control questions worth separating

First, how do you want to send commands? A factory key, a dedicated remote, and a phone can serve different roles. Determine what the vehicle and selected equipment support rather than assuming one control method automatically includes the others.

Second, how will you know what happened? A one-way command and two-way confirmation are different experiences. If you frequently park out of sight, ask specifically about feedback, the information it reports, and the conditions under which it is available.

Third, what communication path is involved? Bluetooth is a nearby connection. Cellular connected control uses additional compatible equipment and service, with coverage requirements. The presence of Bluetooth in a product description should never be treated as a promise of phone control from an arbitrary distance.

Plan security as a deliberate part of the build

Directed's DS4 documentation describes an optional security-upgrade path with a siren and additional sensing. That is a useful reminder to inspect package contents. A remote-start platform and a complete alarm installation are not automatically the same purchase.

Discuss what you want monitored: doors, impacts, vehicle movement, or other supported events. Then ask which inputs or accessories provide that coverage and how the system will respond. More equipment is useful only when it addresses a real requirement and is installed and configured appropriately.

What to bring to a fitment discussion

Record the year, make, model, trim, transmission, and ignition type. Include any existing remote starter, aftermarket alarm, or prior electrical modifications. If the vehicle has push-button start, ask about entry and takeover behavior. If it has a manual transmission, obtain explicit model-specific support and discuss all required safety procedures.

Ask for a complete parts and programming plan, including any application-specific harnesses and controls. A T-harness can be valuable in a supported installation, but its presence does not eliminate the need for every other required connection or the final safety checks.

At handoff, test the normal routine together: lock, unlock, supported remote-start operation, entry, shutdown, and service mode. Use remote start only outdoors, never inside an enclosed garage. Keep the equipment and firmware record so future service work begins with accurate information.

Directed and 12 Volt Outlet

Our Directed partnership celebrates the engineering behind convenient vehicle upgrades. Start with the DS4P product listing and compare it with the documented needs of your installation. We look forward to helping customers ask better questions, select appropriate components, and build a remote-start setup that makes sense long after the purchase.
