Breaking News: 12 Volt Outlet is proud to announce our partnership with SWITCH Works. An accessory-filled vehicle can quickly become a collection of unrelated switches. Lights, communications equipment, and other supported accessories each need a control, a power plan, and a place in the driver's routine. SWITCH Works makes that control-and-installation conversation especially interesting.
For an off-road build, the dashboard is valuable space. A thoughtfully planned control layout can make the vehicle easier to understand while giving future additions somewhere to go. Our partnership celebrates that kind of planning, from the switching platform to the mounting details that finish the installation.
The Alpha12 approach to accessory control
SWITCH Works is presented through SSV Works' official product range. Its Alpha12 platform offers twelve programmable outputs and a controller with configurable LCD button graphics. The manufacturer's current description explains that the buttons are tactile controls with LCD displays behind them, a useful distinction when considering how the interface feels in use.
The system combines a control surface with a separate power-management unit. That gives an installer two placement decisions to make: where the driver should reach and read the controls, and where the power hardware and wiring belong. A complete plan considers both locations together.
Programmability can be useful when the accessory list changes. It still needs an organized layout. Name functions clearly, group related controls sensibly, and avoid a setup that only the original builder understands.
Mounting kits are a real part of the project
Our catalog includes a Can-Am X3 Alpha12 mounting kit and a Jeep JL/JT Alpha12 mounting kit. We also list a Can-Am X3 start/stop-button relocation mounting kit. These are installation accessories, so confirm the exact kit and vehicle application rather than assuming the listing includes the Alpha12 switching system itself.
SSV Works' official mounting range includes vehicle-specific options as well as universal approaches. A dedicated mount can help establish a considered location for the equipment, but the actual vehicle still needs to be checked for trim differences, existing accessories, and available clearance.
Look at the cabin as it is used. A controller should not interfere with normal driving controls, visibility, occupant space, or access to required factory functions. If another control must move, make that part of the installation plan before purchasing hardware.
Write the accessory list before laying out the buttons
List every device you want to control and note its documented electrical requirements. Separate accessories that are already installed from ideas for later. This turns a vague wish for more switches into a project an installer can assess.
Ask which outputs suit each load, what wiring and protection are required, and whether the vehicle's electrical system can support the planned use. A switcher's capacity does not increase the alternator's output or create additional battery energy. The complete vehicle power system needs to be considered.
Keep safety-critical factory functions within their proper design. Do not improvise a connection because a programmable output is available. Any proposed integration with essential vehicle equipment requires application-specific expertise and documented support.
Plan for the environment and for service
Off-road installations face movement, dust, water exposure, and heat in different locations. Follow the exact product instructions for placement and connectors, and choose cable routes that avoid moving parts and abrasion. An environmental rating does not excuse an unprotected or poorly secured connection.
Leave access for inspection and service. Label the circuits and keep a record of their assignments so a later accessory change does not begin with guesswork. Document any settings that affect startup behavior or grouped controls.
Before the first outing, operate each supported accessory while safely parked and review the layout with anyone else who will use the vehicle. Familiar controls are easier to manage than a screen full of unexplained icons.
