12 Volt Outlet is proud to announce our partnership with Saddle Tramp. Motorcycle audio becomes much more interesting when the installation fits the bike as carefully as the equipment fits the listening goal. Saddle Tramp, a Metra Electronics brand, brings motorcycle-specific accessories to the work of mounting speakers, organizing connections, and creating a finished system that feels intentional.

Our selection includes saddlebag and lower-fairing solutions for selected Harley-Davidson applications. These are the kinds of parts that move a project from an idea to a workable layout. Before choosing them, establish the exact motorcycle, the original equipment, and the spaces you want the audio system to use.

A saddlebag speaker project starts with the lid

The Saddle Tramp BC-HDC69-2 cut-in saddlebag speaker kit provides a route to installing speakers in compatible hard-bag lids. Metra identifies it as an unloaded six-by-nine-inch cut-in kit and lists a cutting template, grille, hardware, and saddlebag speaker harness among its contents.

Unloaded is an important detail: the installation hardware and the speakers are separate choices. Confirm the speaker dimensions, mounting depth, and any clearance requirements before treating the kit as a complete audio package. Also establish how the wiring will disconnect when the bags need to be removed for maintenance.

A cut-in installation involves permanent modification. Review the current application information and instructions before any cutting begins, and have a qualified installer confirm the layout. Bag style, aftermarket lids, and existing modifications can change the project even when the motorcycle's model year appears suitable.

Lower-fairing pods create another speaker location

Our BC-HDLFP lower-fairing speaker pods and BC-HDLFPP ported lower-fairing speaker pods offer different parts to compare for supported bikes. The similar names should not obscure their separate applications. Match the complete part number to the specific fairing, cooling configuration, and motorcycle.

Metra's current BC-HDLFPP information specifies compatibility with selected lower-fairing arrangements and explicitly excludes Twin-Cooled models. That kind of note is more important than a broad description such as “Harley-Davidson touring.” Read the detailed fitment and included-parts information before choosing a pod or speaker.

Check the speaker's physical requirements against the pod, including the basket, terminals, grille, and moving-cone clearance. The pod's role is to provide a planned mounting environment; it does not make every nominally similar-size speaker a suitable match.

Keep the rider and the motorcycle at the center

On a bike, speaker placement has to work with body position, airflow, steering, and the controls. Evaluate the proposed installation while considering normal riding posture and passenger use. Equipment should remain securely mounted and must not restrict steering, suspension movement, or access to essential controls.

Wind and road noise also change the listening environment. Aim for understandable music at reasonable levels rather than trying to overwhelm every sound around the motorcycle. Awareness of traffic and the bike itself remains essential, and sustained high listening levels can damage hearing.

Environmental protection deserves its own check. Speakers, amplifiers, processors, harnesses, and connectors may have different exposure limits. Follow the instructions for each component, protect connections appropriately, and preserve the motorcycle's drainage and service provisions.

Plan signal integration before adding power

Identify the original radio, amplifier, and any prior audio modifications. Factory equalization and integration requirements can influence how an aftermarket amplifier or speaker package should be installed. The correct approach depends on the exact motorcycle and equipment, so avoid assuming that a successful setup on another bike will transfer unchanged.

Build a complete parts list that includes speaker mounting, amplifier mounting, wiring, signal integration, and any processing or configuration required. Allocate amplifier channels according to the actual speaker arrangement, then establish crossover and level settings for those drivers. A coordinated installation is easier to tune and service than a series of unrelated additions.
