Ballistic Sound Damping by Metra

Ballistic gives you a practical way to treat panel vibration as part of a car audio installation. Metra's lineup includes butyl-and-aluminum damping sheets, tri-layer material, acoustic padding and the tools to apply them. Start with the surfaces you want to treat, then choose the material and package size for the job.

Find the Right Material

Ballistic Series offers speaker, door, trunk, bulk and wedge packages made with a butyl rubber composite and an aluminum facing. Hollow Point Series provides another range of cut-to-fit damping kits, including a license plate kit.

For a layered treatment, Ballistic SSTRL combines butyl, aluminum and foam. SSQLT is adhesive-backed hybrid acoustic padding that can be installed over Ballistic damping material or used on its own. These materials serve different installation needs, so compare their construction, thickness and coverage before choosing.

Measure First. Choose Your Coverage.

The speaker, door and trunk kit names describe project areas. These packages are universal materials that you measure and cut for the installation. They do not establish year, make or model fitment.

Measure the surfaces you intend to treat and compare each product's sheet dimensions and total coverage. Check clearance around trim, fasteners and moving parts. Allow for the cutting layout and waste rather than assuming a package will cover every vehicle the same way.

Tools for a Clean Installation

Ballistic application tools and seam tape include small, large and grid rollers, plus SSTAPE aluminum tape for sealing seams between Ballistic sheets. Choose a roller that suits the surface and the access available in your project.

Ballistic Questions, Answered

Is Ballistic a Metra product line?

Yes. Metra Electronics lists Ballistic among its brands and publishes its product specifications and installation information.

Does every Ballistic product have three layers?

SSTRL is the tri-layer butyl, aluminum and foam material. Ballistic Series and Hollow Point damping sheets use butyl-and-aluminum construction. SSQLT is a separate acoustic-padding product.

How much material do I need?

Use the measured area, individual sheet dimensions and your planned layout to estimate material needs. Product coverage is the amount of material in the package, not a promise of complete coverage for a specific car or truck.
