Breaking News: 12 Volt Outlet is proud to announce our partnership with Metra. A receiver upgrade should look at home in the dashboard and work with the vehicle around it. Metra's installation products address that meeting point between aftermarket equipment and factory design, making the details behind the screen an essential part of the shopping conversation.

This partnership highlights the pieces that can determine whether a project goes smoothly: the right bezel, mounting brackets, harness arrangement, and vehicle-function interface. A receiver's feature list is exciting, but the installation plan determines how those features fit into the driver's everyday experience.

Dash kits are engineered around specific applications

Our catalog includes the Metra 107-CH3B, 107-CH5, and 107-CH6B. These are different vehicle applications, not interchangeable kits with slightly different trim. Metra currently lists the CH3B for selected Wrangler JL and Gladiator JT years, the CH5 for the 1996–1998 Grand Cherokee, and the CH6B for a defined RAM configuration.

Start with the complete vehicle information and the factory equipment already present. Model year, radio screen, climate-control arrangement, factory amplification, and body generation can affect the required parts. A familiar vehicle name is not a complete fitment description, especially when older and newer body styles overlap.

Receiver shape matters as much as screen size

The 107-CH3B documentation focuses on shallow or supported modular radio configurations. The 107-CH6B likewise supports specified shallow-mount, modular, or L-shaped layouts. This is a reminder that “double-DIN” is not a promise that every receiver chassis will fit every kit bearing that category.

Compare the actual receiver dimensions and chassis arrangement with the current kit instructions. Allow room for connectors, cable bends, and any separate interface module. For a floating-screen receiver, also check the display's relationship to vents, switches, the shift lever, and the driver's view.

Some kits carry an integration job, too

The 107-CH6B illustrates how involved a modern replacement can become. Metra lists it for 2019–2024 RAM trucks with the factory 8.4-inch screen and automatic climate control, excluding Classic models. The package incorporates an Axxess interface and provisions for retaining specified factory controls, alongside its physical installation components.

That does not mean every Metra dash kit contains the same electronics. Compare package contents individually. One application may require separate harnesses, an antenna adapter, or a steering-wheel-control interface, while another combines several functions. Build a complete parts list around the actual vehicle rather than copying a list from a different model.

Understand modifications before work begins

Metra warns that fitting a full-size double-DIN receiver in the 107-CH6B application requires substantial sub-dash modification and can prevent restoration to the factory arrangement. That is a decision to understand before cutting, not a surprise to discover halfway through the installation. Review the intended receiver and kit combination with the installer first.

For any application, distinguish ordinary trim removal from permanent alteration. Identify where brackets, supports, wiring, and climate components sit behind the opening. A professional installer can assess the instructions and explain what the finished project will involve before the vehicle is disassembled.

Check the complete vehicle after installation

The first power-up should include more than music playback. Verify the retained steering-wheel buttons, warning sounds, climate controls, camera behavior, and relevant vehicle settings. Some functions depend on programming or interface configuration, and some have model-specific limitations that should be documented for the owner.

Keep the kit number, receiver model, interface information, and installation instructions together. That record is useful when the vehicle is serviced or the audio system changes later. It also prevents future troubleshooting from starting with the assumption that every visible dashboard part is still factory equipment.

Make the installation part of the upgrade

Our Metra partnership celebrates the engineering behind a finished dashboard. Visit the Metra brand page at 12 Volt Outlet and the application-specific listings to begin planning. Bring the complete vehicle configuration and intended receiver model, then select the installation components as a coordinated package. The result should be a dashboard that is thoughtfully fitted, correctly integrated, and straightforward to use every day.
