VFL Audio VFL Series 6.5" Subwoofer Dual 4 Ohm

VFL Audio at 12 Volt Outlet

Small footprint. Big ambitions. A build worth getting right.

VFL Audio gives bass enthusiasts a seriously wide planning range. A compact 6.5-inch subwoofer and a COMP 20K amplifier may share the VFL name, but they belong to very different projects. That's what makes the lineup interesting: you can explore a space-conscious daily system, dedicated speaker amplification or a purpose-built high-output installation without treating every build as the same exercise.

American Bass presents VFL in its manufacturer catalog, and we're proud to feature it at 12 Volt Outlet. Read our VFL Audio partnership announcement, then use this guide to give the equipment on your shortlist a clear job.

Three distinct directions through the VFL lineup

Dedicated bass in 6.5- and 10-inch formats

Our VFL 6.5-inch dual-4-ohm subwoofer is worth investigating when enclosure packaging drives the project. American Bass specifies 300 watts RMS for the VFL-6544. Its compact cone diameter does not make it a door-speaker replacement: it remains a dedicated subwoofer with its own mounting and enclosure requirements.

The VFL 10-inch dual-4-ohm subwoofer offers another starting point. The manufacturer's VFL-1044 specification lists 800 watts RMS. Compare these drivers by the complete installation they require, including usable airspace, mounting depth and suitable amplifier output. Do not simply scale a box drawing up from one cone size to the other.

COMP monoblocks for a defined bass section

The collection includes COMP 1K, 2K, 2.5K and 3K monoblocks, as well as the much larger COMP 12K and COMP 20K. Start with the COMP 1K or COMP 3K listing when comparing models, but make the final selection from documented output at your actual load and supply conditions.

The COMP 20K is a specialist planning conversation. Its manufacturer description identifies a competition-oriented Class D monoblock. It is not a suggested match for either individual subwoofer above. A build at that scale needs the subwoofer array, enclosure, electrical supply, protection and operating conditions assessed together by an experienced high-output installer.

Speaker channels, Stealth models and installation kits

VFL's selection goes beyond the bass channel. Our COMP 350.4FR, VFL 2000.4 and Stealth 500.4 listings provide four-channel options to investigate, while the VFL 1500.2D offers a two-channel format. The Stealth 5500.1D is another monoblock option. Keep channel count separate from the number in the model name when comparing their jobs.

The collection also includes 0-gauge and 4-gauge installation kits. Check conductor material, cable lengths, included protection and the requirements of the proposed amplifier. A kit carrying the same brand name is not automatically sufficient for every VFL installation.

Build the system around the result you want

For a compact daily driver

Begin with the space you can realistically dedicate to the enclosure. Preserve the seat positions, cargo room and access you need. Compare the small-format subwoofer with its documented enclosure requirements before committing to a location. Then select suitable amplification at the final voice-coil load, rather than working backward from an oversized amplifier.

For a stronger full-system upgrade

Draw the channel layout. Identify the front speakers, rear speakers if used, and subwoofer section. Decide what remains on the factory system and what gets separate amplification. Confirm a suitable source signal and any required interface, then choose the VFL channel configuration that supports that plan. Plenty of bass is more satisfying when vocals and instruments remain balanced with it.

For a specialist high-output build

Establish the intended use before choosing a COMP model: music playback and controlled competition testing can make different demands. Have the electrical installation designed around realistic current requirements, charging capability, storage, cable routing and circuit protection. Leave service access and ventilation in the amplifier layout. Model names and competition associations are not predictions of output in a particular vehicle.

Finish every approach with clean-source verification, gain matching and the appropriate crossover and enclosure protection settings. Use hearing protection during high-level demonstrations and testing. If you're comparing VFL equipment, contact us with your exact drivers, planned enclosure and vehicle details.

VFL Audio questions, answered

Can the VFL 6.5-inch subwoofer replace a 6.5-inch door speaker?

Not simply because the nominal sizes match. It is a dedicated bass driver. Check its intended enclosure, depth, cutout and frequency role before planning an installation.

Does dual 4 ohm mean the amplifier sees 4 ohms?

Not necessarily. The final load depends on how the voice coils and any additional drivers are connected. Plan the complete wiring arrangement and stay within the amplifier's documented limits.

Should I choose the largest COMP amplifier I can afford?

Choose the amplifier your complete system can use and support. Driver capability, enclosure behavior, electrical supply and tuning matter more than the largest model number.

Can a four-channel VFL amplifier power my speakers?

It may be appropriate when the output, load limits, inputs and filters match your speakers and signal plan. Check the exact model's manual, including any proposed bridging arrangement.

Where can I compare the current VFL selection?
