12 Volt Outlet is proud to announce our partnership with Wāvtech. Keeping a factory dashboard and making better use of limited installation space are common goals in modern car audio. Wāvtech brings products that make those goals worth exploring, including compact amplification, signal-integration tools, and shallow subwoofers.
Our current selection includes thinPRO subwoofers and the link300.4mini amplifier. These are useful starting points for a conversation about the complete vehicle: how much space can be used, which factory features should stay, and where the next improvement in the listening experience should come from.
thinPRO puts enclosure planning in a different shape
The Wāvtech thinPRO10 shallow subwoofer and thinPRO12 shallow subwoofer give customers two formats to investigate when depth is a major constraint. Wāvtech documents a shallow motor and suspension arrangement, with a honeycomb Nomex and glass-fiber cone and a protective grille among the series features.
The manufacturer lists mounting depths of 2.9 inches for the thinPRO10 and three inches for the thinPRO12. Those figures are useful, but they describe the driver mounting depth rather than the complete finished enclosure. Material thickness, front clearance, the grille, connections, and the required internal airspace still belong in the layout.
Think about the location from every direction. An under-seat enclosure must clear seat travel and equipment underneath it. A rear-cab installation needs clearance from trim and passengers. The available depth may be the first challenge, but the finished system must also remain secure and practical for the way the vehicle is used.
Shallow does not mean enclosure-free
Wāvtech publishes sealed and ported enclosure guidance for thinPRO models. Choose the approach around the exact driver, available space, and intended result. A ported design needs room for the port as well as the driver, and changing the box dimensions can change more than its exterior shape.
Establish the recommended usable airspace and account for the components inside the box. Confirm cutout and mounting details before assuming that an existing shallow enclosure is suitable. A purpose-built enclosure can be an attractive option when the vehicle's available space is unusually shaped, provided the design still meets the driver's requirements.
Choose the voice-coil version and amplifier together. The manufacturer's available impedance options should be checked against the intended number of drivers and final connection arrangement. That avoids choosing a subwoofer first and discovering that the planned amplifier does not deliver the desired output at the resulting load.
link300.4mini combines amplification with integration features
The Wāvtech link300.4mini four-channel amplifier addresses another familiar challenge: finding room for amplification while retaining the original source. Wāvtech documents a compact chassis, built-in signal summing, high-level input capability, and bridgeable operation, with the appropriate configurations defined in its manual.
Signal summing can be useful when factory audio divides musical information among different channels. The first step is to identify what those channels actually contain and whether they can be combined appropriately. Summing alone does not automatically remove every form of factory equalization, time alignment, or other processing.
Check the original audio package and signal levels before selecting the connection method. Vehicles with factory amplifiers can differ substantially from vehicles with a simpler radio-powered system. Warning chimes, navigation prompts, hands-free audio, and other retained functions should be tested as part of the finished installation.
Compact equipment still needs a complete plan
Allocate the amplifier channels before ordering. A passive component set, an active front stage, and a configuration using bridged channels have different requirements. Use the manufacturer's supported wiring arrangements and load limits, and choose filtering that suits the connected speakers.
Leave room for the power and signal connections, ventilation, and adjustment access. Have the electrical supply and circuit protection sized for the actual installation. Once connected, establish gain from a clean signal, check speaker polarity, and balance the bass with the main speakers at the levels you normally enjoy.
