A vehicle-specific subwoofer enclosure can narrow the search, but the vehicle name is only the starting point. Cab layout, seat clearance and the subwoofer's actual dimensions all matter. This Fox Acoustics buying checklist helps you work through those details before choosing an empty box for your truck or car.
The Fox Box enclosures offered here are empty enclosures. Subwoofers and amplifiers are not included. Start with the Fox Box enclosure collection, then compare the exact enclosure with your vehicle and planned subwoofers.
1. Identify the vehicle beyond its badge
Write down the model year, vehicle model, cab style and generation. For a truck, confirm the rear-seat configuration rather than relying on a photograph of a similar vehicle. Two trucks carrying the same badge can need different boxes.
Ram is a useful example. The Fox DQC-212-V application separates older Quad/Crew Cab trucks and Classic models from the newer-generation Ram 1500. Its manufacturer fitment notes include 2019-up 2500/3500 applications but exclude the newer-generation 1500 from that group. Begin in Fox Ram enclosures and read the individual listing's complete fitment details before selecting an option.
2. Decide what space you can give up
Check how you use the rear-seat area today. Is under-seat storage important? Do you need to keep a particular section clear? A single-subwoofer layout and a full-width dual-subwoofer layout can serve different priorities, even when both appear in the same vehicle category.
Installation requirements also vary within a product's year range. For example, the GM-CC-210-V-07 dual 10-inch vented enclosure specifies removal of the under-seat storage tray in 2019-up trucks. Its 2014–2018 applications require the included 5/8-inch seat spacers. It is a Crew Cab application, not an Extended/Double Cab box. Check those distinctions when browsing Fox GM enclosures.
3. Compare dimensions, not just subwoofer size
A “10-inch” or “12-inch” label does not establish compatibility by itself. Compare the enclosure's cutout diameter, mounting depth and magnet-clearance limits with the dimensions of the exact subwoofer model you plan to use. Also check clearance in front of the cone, particularly in a down-firing installation.
Fox's F150-SC-210-V-09 illustrates why the details matter: its listed mounting opening is 9.125 inches, with 6.25 inches of mounting depth for a 7-inch-diameter magnet. Those measurements describe that enclosure, not every box in Fox Ford enclosures. Do not assume a different subwoofer fits because another model of the same nominal size does.
4. Match the enclosure design to the subwoofer
Check whether the box is sealed or vented, then compare its stated airspace with the subwoofer manufacturer's enclosure recommendations. Read carefully to see whether a volume figure is per chamber, per subwoofer or for the whole enclosure. If the listing does not make that clear, resolve it before ordering.
For a vented box, include the stated tuning frequency in that comparison. Avoid choosing solely by the number of openings or an amplifier's advertised power. The enclosure and driver need to be considered together, alongside your available installation space.
5. Confirm the physical options and installation plan
Review any available cutout adapters, layout choices and required seat-lift hardware on the specific listing. A physical fitment option changes the box or its installation; it does not mean subwoofers or electronics are included. Browse Fox seat-lift kits only after identifying what your chosen application requires, and check what is already included.
Keep a short fitment note with the exact year and cab, enclosure model, subwoofer model, required hardware and any storage changes. That makes it easier to compare two candidates without overlooking a small but important installation difference.
Before ordering, collect your vehicle details, enclosure model and subwoofer dimensions in one place. If anything is uncertain, contact 12 Volt Outlet with those details.
