DC Audio at 12 Volt Outlet. Serious bass, real builders, and a story worth turning up.

A brand that means something to us
One subwoofer a day. A whole community behind it.
DC Audio has a special place at 12 Volt Outlet. We love the equipment, but we care just as much about the people and the work behind it. The excitement of a great bass system starts long before the first demo: at the workbench, in the enclosure design, and in the conversations that help a builder get it right.
Meet Rusty Flowers
DC Audio founder Rusty Flowers describes a simple original goal: "Sell one subwoofer a day." His account of the company begins with more than three decades in car audio and the desire to build equipment he could understand, improve and be proud to sell.
That hands-on outlook grew into a broader lineup for daily systems and demanding competition builds. Celebrating 20 years of DC Audio, Rusty gives the credit to the people around the brand: employees, customers, dealers, installers and competitors. The relationships matter alongside the output.
That is the part of the story we want you to know. You can read more in our original DC Audio feature.

Choose the build before the badge
Find your level. Then make it count.
A compact daily-driver upgrade and a purpose-built bass vehicle need different plans. Our DC Audio collection brings the current listings together so you can compare the equipment without hunting through separate categories. These are useful starting points, not a one-size-fits-all ranking.
Your everyday soundtrack
Level-series bass
The catalog spans Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4 subwoofers in different sizes and configurations. The Level 3's manufacturer documentation covers sealed and ported applications, while the Level 4 uses a different motor and suspension package. Choose the specific driver around your enclosure space, intended listening level and available amplifier power.
There is real satisfaction in a daily system that sounds right every time you turn the key. A well-matched subwoofer and box are the foundation.
When the build gets serious
XL, Level 5, Level 6 and NEO
Our listings include XL SPL, Level 5 Elite, Level 6 and NEO families for builders planning more demanding systems. DC describes the XL SPL around competition-oriented development, while the NEO 4.0 combines a four-inch coil with a neodymium motor arrangement for high-power applications.
At this end of the range, the enclosure, electrical supply, amplifier and vehicle all need to be planned together. Several listings are marked built to order. Confirm the exact version and current lead time before scheduling installation.
Big ideas, tighter spaces
Compact drivers and powersports
The M4 6.5-inch and 8-inch listings give smaller-driver starting points, while Shortie FTW models address installations where mounting depth is a priority. Compact does not mean enclosure-free: compare cutout, mounting depth, usable airspace and front clearance before choosing.
DC also positions the PS3 for enclosed installations used in open-air settings such as baggers, Slingshots and side-by-sides. That is an application distinction, not a claim that it works without a box or that every placement is weatherproof.
Power, presence and detail
Amplifiers and the rest of the system
The DC lineup here includes mono and multi-channel amplifiers, compact PS models, coaxial speakers, pro-audio drivers, horns and tweeters. A complete build needs the right channel layout and frequency coverage as well as bass output.
Compare the exact amplifier's permitted load, output conditions, input options and dimensions. For speakers, distinguish a dedicated midrange or tweeter from a coaxial assembly, and plan the crossover accordingly. Bigger numbers do not replace a coherent system.
Build something you are proud to turn up.
Start with the vehicle, the space you can use and the result you want. Then work through the parts as one system. This is where a strong build becomes more than a shopping list.
- Choose the enclosure and driver together. Use the recommendations for the exact model and generation. Account for driver and port displacement, mounting clearance and secure attachment. Our Box Buddy calculator can help organize the design.
- Plan the final electrical load. Voice-coil configuration and the number of drivers determine the load the amplifier sees. Match that arrangement to the amplifier's supported operating limits and the driver's continuous requirements.
- Give the system proper electrical support. Have the installer assess charging capacity, wiring, fusing, grounding and voltage under load. An amplifier upgrade can require supporting work; the vehicle's original electrical system is not automatically sufficient.
- Leave room for installation and setup. Allow for ventilation, cable bends, service access and crossover/gain adjustment. Read the current listing and manufacturer instructions before committing to a configuration.
Bring us your build. Contact 12 Volt Outlet with your vehicle, available space, existing equipment and the DC Audio models you are considering. Those details help us work through the next decision with you.
DC Audio questions, answered.
Is DC Audio only for competition systems?
No. The brand covers everyday systems as well as high-output builds. Start with your space and goals, then compare the appropriate driver and amplifier rather than choosing the largest model by default.
Are DC Audio subwoofers hand-built?
DC Audio identifies hand-built construction on several of its official subwoofer pages, including Level 3, XL SPL and NEO models. Check the documentation for the specific product; do not extend a subwoofer claim to every amplifier, speaker or accessory.
Does a PS3 work without an enclosure?
DC describes the PS3 as an enclosed subwoofer intended to perform in open-air listening environments. A motorcycle or side-by-side installation still needs a suitable enclosure and correct mounting. Follow the exact model's recommendations.
What does built to order mean for my purchase?
Some DC Audio listings are explicitly marked built to order. Confirm the selected size, coil configuration and current production timing before planning the install. This guide does not promise an availability or shipping date.
Can I use the same box when moving up a level?
Not automatically. Check net volume, tuning, mounting depth, cutout size and displacement for the replacement driver. A shared nominal diameter does not establish that the existing enclosure is suitable.
Where do I compare the full selection?
Use the full DC Audio collection. Its specification filters help narrow the relevant equipment, while each product page carries the current listing details and available options.
